Hotel Bleu de Grenelle

It's spring: enjoy Paris 15 in the open air

Categories : Discover Paris, published on : 5/10/23

Winter is finally coming to an end, and after spending several months in the gray and cold, everyone is happy to be back in the sun. Spring is then the opportunity to breathe fresh air and take beautiful walks. And you don't have to be in the middle of nowhere to enjoy the fresh air, because Paris 15 also knows how to offer you pleasant itineraries when the sun comes out. Here is a small selection of places to visit during your stroll in Paris 15, a stone's throw from the Hôtel Bleu de Grenelle.

Discover the Grenelle bridge

During a stay in Paris, tourists naturally go to the most beautiful monuments of the capital. Among them, the bridges of Paris are really worth the detour. But if one stops more willingly on the Pont des Arts, or the Pont Neuf, the Pont de Grenelle is also very interesting.

Connecting rue Maurice Bourder to rue Linois, at the end of the Ile aux Cygnes, this steel bridge of 30 meters wide and 220 meters long hides a history of nearly 2 centuries. Originally, this bridge crossing the Seine, called Grenelle-Cadets-de-Saumur bridge, was built in 1827, at the request of the developers of the new Beaugrenelle district. Open to horse-drawn carriages and pedestrians, this toll bridge collapsed in 1873. A year later, a second cast iron bridge was built, with 6 arches, and the Statue of Liberty was installed nearby. It was destroyed by a shell during the First World War. It is only in 1968 that the bridge we know today is built.

The Grenelle bridge now offers a breathtaking view of the Seine and the Quai Javel.

Browse the Swan Island

At the foot of the Grenelle Bridge, the Ile aux Cygnes stretches between the waters of the Seine over nearly 850 meters long and 11 meters wide. This artificial island represents an ideal place for a stroll in the 15th district of Paris. You will be able to stroll in the shade of willows, poplars and ash trees, and admire the 322 specimen trees, of 61 different species. From here, you will have a unique view of the replica of the Statue of Liberty, installed on the Passy viaduct.

Ile aux Cygnes was able to take advantage of the Seine riverbank development project in 2012, and the point has been completely renovated. You can now play sports with a view of the Eiffel Tower, thanks to the installation of climbing walls, apparatus and fixed bikes.

Near the Statue of Liberty, a green wall and numerous plantations have been added to the bucolic setting of the island, offering you a perfect and exotic setting for a stroll.

Good to know: the Swan Island takes its name from the costly caprice of King Louis XIV, who had swans brought from Denmark and Sweden in 1676, for the simple pleasure of admiring them.

Walk in the Georges Brassens park

Only 15 minutes by metro from the Hotel Bleu de Grenelle, Georges Brassens Park is a haven of peace in the heart of the 15th arrondissement of Paris. Stroll along the paths and admire the setting: various plants, a small bridge over a river, a belvedere, a rose garden... Open all your senses, and let yourself be transported by the perfumes and the songs of birds that nature offers at its awakening, as soon as the first rays of sunshine arrive.

Along your walk, you will also be able to admire some works of art, such as the bust of Emile Decroix, a horse's head, and of course, a bust of Georges Brassens, who lived nearby for most of his life.

Located on the former slaughterhouses of Vaugirard, the Georges Brassens park was also, during the 18th century, a vineyard, and some vines of pinot noir are still exploited today near the apiary. Several activities are proposed in this sense, to discover the activity of the vineyard and the bees of the apiary.

The children also like to hang out here and play swings and ping-pong, or ride the merry-go-round.

Enjoy the lawns of the André Citroën Park

Another green space in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, the André Citroën park is the ideal place for a romantic stroll or a family walk. Inaugurated in 1992 in place of the former Citroën factory, this park offers a relaxation area for adults and playgrounds for children.

Sloping gently down to the Seine, the 14-hectare green space is home to a great diversity of plants, and the large lawn is particularly pleasant for a picnic in the sun.

Throughout your walk, you will discover peaceful landscaped areas where nature can express itself freely: a bamboo grove, a wooded meadow, greenhouses and an artificial island.

In the white garden of the André Citroën park, children can have fun in the playground. A zip line is accessible, unless the youngest prefer to play ball or ping-pong. In the black garden, they will have the pleasure to play in the two huge sandboxes, to have fun in the wooden huts and on the slides.

And if you want to take a high view of the park from above, the large captive gas balloon lifts you 150 meters above the ground.

Leave the 15th arrondissement of Paris to admire the Eiffel Tower

If you're passing through the 15th arrondissement, it would be a shame not to take your discovery a step further by going to the 7th arrondissement. In the north-east of Paris 15, only a few minutes on foot, you will have the pleasure to cross the Iron Lady.

Built in 1889 for the Universal Exhibition, the Eiffel Tower is an essential monument of the capital. You can then climb to the top to enjoy a breathtaking view of Paris. Then, if you feel like it, extend the pleasure by walking the few hundred meters that separate you from the greatest historical monuments of France: the Louvre museum, the Grand Palais, the Champs-Élysées...
